Caitlin chairs new insurance pandemic steering group

A newly established steering group of UK insurance industry leaders has been set up to propose an industry wide response to the present coronavirus and future pandemics. The group will work closely with Pool Re, the UK’s specialist terrorism insurer originally set up in the wake of the bombing of the Baltic Exchange in 1992.

The new steering group is chaired by Stephen Catlin, chairman and CEO of Convex, and includes Maurice Tulloch, CEO of Aviva, Stephen Hester, CEO of RSA, Julian Enoizi, CEO of Pool Re, Nick Frankland, UK CEO reinsurance solutions at Aon, James Nash, CEO international at Guy Carpenter and James Kent, CEO of Willis Re. It is understood that other participants will be invited to join in due course.

The group’s first meeting was held last Friday, where it agreed its objectives. Its main objective is to propose an industry response to both the government and the country, and it will be working closely with Pool Re with regard to structural recommendations.

Stephen Catlin commented: “The insurance industry needs to be on the front foot in the current situation, paying claims quickly and continuing to provide people and businesses with the protection they require. Most importantly we need to find an industry solution for future pandemics and this group has many years of combined industry experience.”
