Admiral deploys AI for motor insurance fraud detection

French subsidiary of Admiral, L'olivier, is deploying AI in the fight against motor insurance fraud.

The solution, developed by Shift Technology, recovers the insurer’s data (claims data, contracts, survey reports, etc) and analyses external information such as meteorological data, satellite images and web data. These increase the appraisal abilities of the AI model, allowing potential frauds to be reported.

Head of the claims analytics team at L'olivier, Janny Druon said the firm created a dedicated unit to deal with fraud. “Shift will help us in building out our capabilities. [Its] solution improves our ability to detect fraud by reducing the number of irrelevant cases, at the same time as it enhances our ability to prove fraud by providing administrators with avenues of investigation, enabling us to avoid payment of fraudulent claims,” she explained.

L’olivier’s chief executive officer, Pascal Gonzalvez said fraud systematically increases the price of all insurance policies, forcing all policyholders to bear the costs.

“Fighting actively against fraud is a way of re-establishing fairness for our policyholders,” he added.
