CII launches Chartered MGA titles

The Chartered Insurance Institute has launched a Chartered title for individuals working for managing general agents and a corporate title of Chartered Insurance Underwriting Agent for firms. Both titles have been developed with the support of the Managing General Agents’ Association.

One of the first holders of the new corporate title is Manchester Underwriting Management, the firm run by MGAA chair, Charles Manchester. Simply Business and Geo Underwriting also hold the title.

The launch of the new titles has been a long-held ambition of CII CEO, Sian Fisher, who commented: “Managing general agents have quickly grown to be a significant and important part of the profession. MGAs are taking responsibility to deliver an outcome for the consumer. MGAs need the same knowledge, expertise and to demonstrate the same commitment to professional standards as other segments of the insurance profession.

Chartered title individuals must hold the Advanced Diploma in Insurance, be a member of the CII and have at least five years’ sector experience. Existing holders of individual titles such as Chartered Insurance Practitioner or Chartered Insurance Broker can apply to transfer to the new title.

Manchester, CEO of Manchester Underwriting Management added: “We are delighted to support the launch of this new Chartered title. The Chartered Insurance Underwriting Agent designation is an important step forward in the long-term success of MGAs and continuing relevance in the market. We call on all our members to consider investing in achieving the Chartered title to demonstrate that their businesses are at the forefront of the profession.”
