Aegis ups capacity for 2021

Aegis London will increase its underwriting by 27% in 2021. On a gross premium basis, it said capacity will rise from £712m in 2020 to £918m in the coming underwriting year.

Aegis aims to expand across all lines of business, mixing traditional Lloyd’s underwriting with that from its online quote-and-bind platform Opal.

The lockdown saw Aegis London achieve record levels of business on the platform.

David Croom-Johnson, managing director of Aegis London, said: “2021 should be a year of real opportunities for the Lloyd’s market and we are in an excellent position to take full advantage of them.

“Our thoughtful and disciplined approach to managing our business is demonstrated by achieving a lower combined ratio than the Lloyd’s market average for the last 10 years and being in the top quartile of the market since 2010.”

Aegis London operates Syndicate 1225 at Lloyd’s.
