The British Insurance Brokers’ Association has partnered with Ageas to publish a guide about insurance for modified vehicles. Aimed at both brokers and consumers, the guide includes examples of alterations an insurer would consider as a modification to a car or a motorcycle.
Three case studies provide examples of heavily modified cars and what the implications for brokers may be. The examples also illustrate that the industry must be aware if and how a modification across eight categories (such as paintwork, suspension, wheels and engine transmission) affects the functioning of a vehicle.
The document also explores possible disputes and reviews two case studies to show how the Financial Ombudsman Service has ruled in the past.
