Calls for regulator to go further on diversity

Consultancy firm NTT Data UK&I has called on the Financial Conduct Authority and the Prudential Regulation Authority to go further in their proposed measures to improve diversity and inclusion in the insurance sector.

Deborah Bale, head of general insurance and broking at NTT Data UK&I, said: “The facts are clear – the UK is falling behind on talent attraction and retention. And while it’s great that the FCA and PRA are finally stepping up to address bullying and harassment, we need to see these proposals go beyond guidelines and suggestions; we need definitive, enforceable standards to ensure firms know what is expected of them and underrepresented people feel like they belong in this industry.

“True inclusion doesn’t begin with box-ticking and arbitrary quotas; it begins by creating a workplace where everybody is made to feel welcome. We need a system that demands transparency, encourages diversity, and fosters a culture of inclusion at all levels. We’ve got a long way to go, and it’s high time we picked up the pace.”
