BIBA backs government push for total signposting

The British Insurance Brokers’ Association will work with the Association of British Insurers to create a new signposting commitment after giving its support to the move published as part of the government’s financial inclusion strategy. The strategy outlines a switch to more comprehensive signposting for people seeking insurance.

The existing signposting initiative is aimed at helping older people and those with medical conditions as well as at specific covers such as flood and protection insurance. The change to total signposting will mean the initiative covers all classes of retail insurance.

The existing project has already supported 1.7 million people and BIBA established its Access to Insurance committee to oversee its initial signposting agreements.

Graeme Trudgill (pictured), BIBA’s Chief Executive said: “This is a really welcome announcement. We are fully committed to helping those consumers who are not offered insurance, often due to their non-standard needs, to be appropriately signposted.”

Caroline Barr, chair of the Access to Insurance committee, added: “BIBA is committed to delivering total signposting and looks forward to working with the ABI and others to increase the number of consumers signposted to specialist insurance solutions.”
