The Association of British Insurers has published two guides to help the industry better support people facing economic and domestic abuse. They were developed in collaboration with members as well as with external support from charities Surviving Economic Abuse and the Employers' Initiative on Domestic Abuse.

The ABI launched the publications at a parliamentary reception and hopes they will support the industry to support vulnerable individuals and drive better outcomes for customers.

The guides offer examples and information to help businesses detect and respond to economic and domestic abuse, reduce opportunities for perpetrators and support safe disclosure.

Hannah Gurga, director general of the ABI, said: “Feeling safe and in control of your own life is something everyone should be able to expect. Developed with specialist charities, these guides will help insurance and pension firms recognise the signs of economic and domestic abuse, respond with care and give customers and employees the support they need.”
