Managing general agent Alps has extended its pothole add-on policy to include fleets as well as hire and reward vehicles. The policy first came to market in April this year and was launched in response to rising damage to vehicles from potholes.

The cost of the fleet extension is under £16 per vehicle for fleets ranging from 5 to 300 vehicles. The hire and reward extension includes privately owned vehicles used for commercial purposes such as taxis, minicabs, limousines and courier operations. Premiums per vehicle start at £60.

The two extensions, underwritten by Collinson, are delivered in partnership with MB&G Insurance Services Ltd and Strategic Insurance Services Ltd.

Michelle O’Reilly, managing director at Alps, said: “Our pothole add-on policy has been our fastest-selling product to date. Feedback from brokers is that it’s a true differentiator, helping them play their part in tackling the damage caused by the nationwide deterioration of our roads.”

Potholes have attracted attention from other providers such as GAP insurance specialist ALA Insurance. It launched a pothole product in August of this year.
