Open GI has appointed James Barnard as group chief executive, with the transition planned for the second half of 2026 as the business enters its next phase of growth.

Barnard joins from Aviva, where he was chief operating officer overseeing technology, transformation and change delivery for a team of more than 1,500 within the UK’s largest general insurance business.

He also previously held senior roles at the Ardonagh Group.
