Arc Legal upgrades legal defence cover for landlords

Legal expenses insurance and assistance services provider in the UK and Ireland, Arc Legal, has unveiled upgrades to its legal defence cover for landlords in response to the Homes (Fitness for Human Habitation) Act 2018.

The legislation is designed to improve tenants’ living standards in rental properties, by allowing tenants to take direct legal action against the landlord if they have failed to provide a rental property that is not ‘fit for human habitation’.

The law came into force on 20th March 2019.

As a result, Arc Legal has widened the legal defence cover under their landlord’s legal expenses product to defend any civil or criminal prosecution against the landlord, which will include matters brought under this legislation.

Arc Legal’s head of sales and marketing, James Waddy said: “We are continually developing our products to meet changing needs in the market, including developments in legislation.

“The Homes (Fitness for Human Habitation) Act is an important piece of legislation and extending our landlords cover in response to this will, we hope, offer additional peace of mind to landlords,” he added.

Arc Legal, a subsidiary of AmTrust International, manages some 16 million LEI policies and writes in excess of £33.2m net written premium across all product lines, including motor, family, commercial, affinity, property owners, travel and leisure.
