Insurance Museum secures National Lottery funding

The Insurance Museum has secured a grant of £249,700 from The National Lottery Heritage Fund. The funding will secure the museum’s Insurance Heritage at Risk project for the next three years and will support research into insurance heritage and the development of an associated education programme.

The research will include examining existing material in public and corporate archives as well as recording oral histories from market practitioners who were active from the late 1960s to the 2000s.

Howard Benge, director of the Insurance Museum, said: “The £249,700 grant from the Heritage Fund will support programmes for schools, families, and young people. These programmes will introduce insurance, explore its history, explain how it supports people today, and highlight insurance careers for children and young people.”

Stuart McLeod, director, England – London & South at The National Lottery Heritage Fund, added: “We’re delighted to support the Insurance Museum in preserving and sharing the heritage of insurance… This project will not only safeguard important collections and stories but also inspire future generations to understand the role insurance plays in our lives today.”
