Short-term insurance specialist Tempcover has become a member of the Insurance Fraud Bureau. The move means Tempcover will provide data to the IFB in relation to policies taken out by its customers while also having access to centralised counter-fraud tools.
Sharing data such as device IDs, driving licence numbers and payment IDs will empower both parties to better flag suspicious applications and claims. Tempcover already uses ID scoring in its application process and works with MyLicence to verify the driving licence credentials that customers provide.
Ursula Jallow, director at the IFB, said: “Tempcover represents a diverse range of insurance products, along with a strong desire of collaboration in the fight against fraud within the temporary insurance market, where it is evident there has been an increase in both application fraud and ghost broking.
“We look forward to working closely together, particularly when it comes to harnessing new opportunities through compliant data and intelligence sharing, which is a real strength of our membership.”
Bruce Coxwell, chief underwriting officer at Tempcover, added: “We recognise that the speed and convenience of our products must be matched by equally agile fraud prevention. Joining the IFB ensures our digital journeys are supported by the most robust data available, allowing us to enhance our own defences while actively supporting the wider industry.”
The IFB and Tempcover were both founded in 2006. Tempcover has 3.7 million users.
